What makes CBCP unique?

What makes CBCP unique is the staff. The staff, in my opinion, is one of the best in the country. The coaches, teachers, and advisors make CBCP stand bright and stand out from all other high schools. Their dedication, motivation, and passion for what they do has allowed CBCP to be heard of everywhere, even in the smallest town of Iowa.

How did you change during your time at CBCP? How has that been transferable to your college experience so far?

During my 4 years at CBCP, I changed dramatically. My personality, my goals, and my self-confidence grew significantly. All this has come quite in-handy to my college experience so far. It has allowed me to have courage, confidence, and be brave. For that reason and thanks to CBCP, I can say that I have been elected First Year Class President on Student Senate. I am also a member on one of the best Mock Trial Teams in the nation and a member of two other student organization groups.

What are you most excited about on campus?

I am honestly excited about all the fun activities and clubs they have to offer. There are so many clubs I want to join but I can only do so much. I am also excited about the Block Plan which allows the students to take One Course At A Time (OCAAT). The OCAAT system allows me to fully focus on one class as well as focus on all the clubs and leadership roles I take.

During high school, Jose was involved with our Fall Play, Street Law, the Cross Country Team, Track and Field, and National Honor Society.

Maya Villa
Class of 2013
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Major: Undecided

What makes CBCP unique?

What makes CBCP unique is the teachers. The teachers are always willing to help students, and they always have their best interest in mind for their classes. They bring motivation and family to this school; you can't find that at very many other schools.

How did you change during your time at CBCP? How has that been transferable to your college experience so far?

During my time at CBCP, I grew more confident, organized, and mature. That has been transferable to my college experience so far because through my confidence, I am more open to networking; through my organization, I am able to manage my time well in order to get everything done; finally, through my maturity, I am able to decide what I need personally and academically.

What are you most excited about on campus?

What I am most excited about at UIUC is being able to meet so many people with different backgrounds, and I am excited about the vast selection in classes that I can choose from that can fit into what I want to study.

During high school, Maya was involved with our Fall Play, the Cross Country Team, Glee Club, Rock Band, Business 101, Improv Club, Piano Lab, Boxing 101, Mural Club, and National Honor Society.
